K-SWISS TAPS RISING STAR ED WESTWICK FOR THE LAUNCH OF THEIR RE-MASTERED CLASSIC CAMPAIGN

THE GQDG SAT DOWN WITH ED WESTWICK AT THE K-SWISS PHOTO SHOOT.

On November 15, K-Swiss invited the GQ Design Group and Style Correspondent Brett Fahlgren out to Splashlight Studios in NYC to take a behind-the-scenes look at the K-Swiss “Re-mastered” Classic ad campaign, featuring Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl. The campaign, shot by Zach Gold, reintroduces the Classic as a footwear icon with the same combination of performance and style that K-Swiss heritage is built upon. Following the shoot, GQ sat down with Ed Westwick to discuss his new collaboration with K-Swiss and more.

GQ: Congratulations on your new collaboration with K-Swiss. Tell us your thoughts on K-Swiss and how this project came about?

ED WESTWICK: K-Swiss is a classic brand, since I think 1966 or so they’ve been operating on both levels, as an athletic shoe and as cool street wear. My character on Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass, is unique and his style stands out – definitive, modern with a bit of an edge. I think these qualities work well with K-Swiss.

GQ: As you’ve become more high profile and your career has taken off, has your style changed? Is there a difference between your character’s style and your style?

EW: One of the biggest changes is that now I am bombarded with fashion. We work with such amazing and talented stylists on the set of Gossip Girl and I’m always impressed by what they put together for my character. My character takes more risks with his style then I do in my everyday life. I’d describe my own style as a bit more roughed up, jeans, tee shirts but open to new things. I’ve always had an interest in style and been aware of new designers - being in New York is great for that.

GQ: Any particular designers that stand out to you at the moment?

EW: I really like Michael Bastian, also Burberry. Burberry’s done a great job of updating their brand, from old-school Britannia to new, modern cool. I like designers who are creative and highlight individuality. And of course, K-Swiss.

GQ: Finally, what’s your idea of a gentleman?

EW: A gentleman is aware, has presence and is always respectful. He uses what he has for good and makes sure his impact on the world is positive.
