On May 25, James Beard
Foundation Multiple
Award Winner, and GQ's
2009 Chef of the Year,
José Andrés showcased the culinary team from his restaurants
nationwide. The James Beard Foundation, The Glenlivet, and
GQ put on a spectacular dining experience with José Andrés, which
included a special tasting of The Glenlivet portfolio, presented by
Ricky Crawford, The Glenlivet Ambassador.

On June 3, GQ, Nautica, and Lord & Taylor partnered for the
second annual night of fashion and football. This year, event
attendees had the chance to meet New York football rising stars and
hometown rivals Hakeem Nicks and Shonn Greene and receive
a personally autographed football with their qualifying Nautica
sportswear purchase.

In 2010, The Gentlemen's Fund partnership
between Nautica and GQ once again
supported Oceana to enhance the awareness
and restoration of the world's oceans. As an
extension of this initiative, Nautica and GQ
came together to celebrate World Oceans Day
with a VIP event at the Sunset Tower Hotel
in West Hollywood. The event, co-hosted
by January Jones and GQ VP/Publisher
Pete Hunsinger, featured a live musical
performance by Jakob Dylan. Together,
Oceana, Nautica, and GQ VIPs supported
Oceana and honored the 2010 Oceana Ocean
Heroes. Cocktails perfected by Absolut
Vodka
were featured throughout the evening.

While waiting at Soho's Mercer Hotel recently, I looked around the
lobby and started to wonder what makes it such a beautiful, inviting
space. Why do Miuccia Prada and other arbiters of design stay there
when in New York? There's the dramatic wall of books, the blanket
of lighting, the seamless transition between bar, lobby, and check-in,
and of course the well-edited arrangement of furniture and couches
in deep-brown espresso—a luxe blend of black and chocolate.
The maitre d' got back to me with the answer: Christian Liaigre. In
addition to the Mercer lobby, this interior designer is responsible for
an impressive list of spaces, from private lofts in New York City to an
old Bavarian farmhouse in the mountains of southern Germany that's
become a modern masterpiece. If you want simplicity and something
a little more masculine, Liaigre could well be the designer for you. His
fine book “Maison Christian Liaigre” is a good place to start. After that,
try the Holly Hunt showroom, which represents Liaigre in the U.S.

On June 19, GQ arrived in Italy's fashion
epicenter to celebrate the debut of the spring 2011
men's collections. To commemorate the occasion,
Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson and VP/Publisher
Pete Hunsinger hosted a private party at Palazzo
Clerici, an 18th century architectural masterpiece.

On June 10, Simon Doonan
and Tom Kalenderian, both
from Barneys, and GQ's
Adam Rapoport hosted
more than 150 fashion
insiders at Barneys New
York to celebrate the launch
of Havaianas new limited-
edition flip-flops.

Brett,
I have searched high and low
for the ideal lightweight denim
shirt. Living on a remote island
in the Caribbean, the effort
is futile. However, given the
wonders of the Internet, there
are no excuses.

Having just received my 'Hound'
email from GQ, I see you are in
fact wearing what seems to be
what I am after in your Summer
Suited 'Tallia' clip! Would you
mind divulging its origin?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hi Damian,
I would recommend J. Crew,
one of my favorite shops for
finding reasonably priced, great
fitting American sportswear.
Their menswear designer Frank
Muytjens was nominated this past
year as one of GQ's Best New
Designers in America. Since you're
living in the Caribbean, make sure
you pay close attention to the fabric
and go with a lighter fabric, like
cotton, instead of a heavier denim.

Good luck,
Brett
